I was discussing with some of my classmates recently about
the concept of authenticity and blogging (or any form of social media, really).
I have said in the past that there is admirably in presenting yourself
authentically through your blog or other social media outlets. As I said this,
I realized that I wasn't being entirely authentic myself. I realized I often aim
to present the best version of myself or discuss clothes and beauty products.
And while I value those things and take pride in sharing my knowledge about
fashion through my blog, I also want to discuss real and relevant topics with
my readers. A blog shouldn't be a one way street; It should be a platform on
which authentic relationships can develop between blogger and reader. I am
relatively new to blogging, but already my network of people that I interact
with has grown immensely.
I started blogging in order to share things I am
interested in and (hopefully) to inspire others. While those things do include
fashion, beauty products, and an all-you-can-eat Pinterest board, I want to
make sure that I include other topics I am passionate about. I love reading
inspiring, helpful, advice and career focused articles that empower women.
I came across this quote “be fearlessly authentic” on Pinterest
and I think it will serve as a good reminder of what I am trying to accomplish.
The older I get, the more I realize that the people I value most in my life are
the ones that are unapologetically, fearlessly, and organically themselves.
The real me:
doesn’t wear makeup everyday
(almost) always has a pile of laundry on my floor
has anxiety that results in daily freak-outs about trivial issues
considers chocolate chip cookies an adequate dinner
enjoys a latte (or two) daily
I want to share the beautiful parts of my life and the things I struggle with because authenticity is extremely important to me.The best part about blogging is getting to know real people I wouldn't have met otherwise.
Let's chat! Feel free to email me at chelseanmcd[at]gmail[dot]com. I would love to hear from you.

Hi Chelsea, your blog is beautiful. I wish you all the best as you continue to find your voice. My blog is about 5 years old - it's one of the best things I've taken on. It's a challenge to be transparent and authentic as social media rewards the sunnier moments. All the best,
ReplyDeleteSusan
Hi Susan! Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my blog! I feel like I am a pretty transparent person in real life, but it has been challenging maintaining that authenticity via social media and blogging. I am glad others feel the same way!
